Early in my career, I had a great mentor.  She encouraged me, gave me excellent advice and introduced me to people who made a difference in my career.  I don’t know that I ever formally went to her and asked her to be my mentor, I think the relationship just evolved over time.  However, I can’t say enough about how much of an impact she had on my career and even my life.  I have yet to pay that forward to a mentee.

The presidential election is one of the most spirited we have seen in decades, with two unprecedented candidates. When viewed through the prism of psychology, the dynamics of the race and politics in general become even more interesting in how they affect voters.

The reality is that politics is marketing. Candidates are marketing themselves to the population. The difference is that with politics there is a very bright-line scorecard (actual voting) and very frequent data updates (polling) that can give marketers quick, pertinent feedback on the effects of their efforts. There are many psychological marketing lessons that apply to both areas that play out in today's races.

Google to Release New Mobile Algorithm

Google is set to release its new mobile algorithm April 21, 2015.

Google, as usual, is fairly tight-lipped as to what, exactly, will happen to search as a result of the deployment; however, at a recent conference, Google’s Webmaster Trends Analyst Zineb Ait Bahajji announced the impact of the new mobile search algorithm will have a larger impact than Panda and Penguin, two of Google’s other recent updates to its search algorithm.

The Birmingham News just published an article about Lindsay Sutton, Intermark’s in-house, research psychologist and assistant strategic planner (who by the way has her Ph.D in psychology). 

The article points out:

“For Intermark Chief Executive Jake McKenzie, hiring Lindsay Sutton as research psychologist and assistant strategic planner was not much of a stretch.

‘We’re the applied division of academic psychology,’ he said. ‘That’s really what we do. We get people to change their minds and behavior about things.’”

Around the agency we say like to say our approach to advertising is based on applied psychology. Which is exactly why we’re stoked about having Sutton on our team.
